Our Mission and Vision
In a makerspace, students build, design, create, imagine, experiment, and connect with others in a safe, supportive space. They are provided with ideas, options, tools, and supplies, while having complete control over what they make and how.
There are an endless number of benefits of offering a makerspace in our school. As the school librarian, I am especially excited to support and celebrate students’ creativity, innovation, resourcefulness, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Through hands-on learning opportunities, students build resilience when they try something that does not work and then try a new approach.
In a makerspace, students are encouraged to share ideas, support, celebrate, and teach one another. I notice students connecting with those who they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do so during the school day. It is my hope that a makerspace will increase students’ sense of belonging, and therefore have a positive impact on their educational experience.
